Step-by-step guide of brewing:

1. Heat water

Reaching the right water temperature is critical, the water temperature needs to reach about 195 to 205-degrees Fahrenheit or 90-degrees Celsius.

If you don’t have a thermometer, a simple trick is to wait for the water to boil and then remove it from heat and wait at least 30 seconds before brewing. You can also use smart kettles that can tell you the waters current temperature. The Gooseneck kettle can help your water flow.

2. Grind coffee

Each brewing method requires different sizes of coffee grounds. Choosing the best grind will help extract the perfect amount of flavor from your coffee. The finer the grind the more intense the flavor but can result to over extraction.

For pour-over coffee, the best grind to use is a medium grind.

3. Measure coffee and water

Proper water and coffee ratio is needed for the best brew. The strength of the taste will depend on how much ground coffee you use per cup.

We recommend a coffee to water ratio of 10 grams of coffee for every 150-160 ml of hot water. Adding more water will lessen the flavor or intensity of the coffee drink and likewise adding more coffee will make it more intense.

4. Rinse or wet your filter

Adequately rinse the filter paper to wash out any remnants of paper taste. Place the filter into the dripper and pour some of the hot water (not measured) in a circular manner starting from the outside going into the middle, rinsing all sides of the filter in contact with the dripper. Wait for about 5 seconds for the water to drip down and discard the rinse water in the cup or carafe.

5. Add coffee grounds to the filter

Add the recommended/desired ratio of ground Blue Moon Coffee to the coffee filter and gently tap it to level the surface of the grounds.

6. Pour water

Using the measured water, pour in a small amount of hot water just enough to wet all of the grounds first to immerse and prepare the coffee for soaking or steeping. After about 10 seconds, carefully start pouring the hot water in a circular manner, starting from the middle going to the outside of the coffee grounds. The coffee will bloom or blossom, however don't over pour such that the bloom goes beyond too much from the grounds. Pause pouring to let the bloom subside a bit. Repeat, alternate the circular motion of starting from the middle to starting from the outside until all of the measured water has been used.
Remove the dripper after 5 seconds or all of the hot water has gone through the grounds.
